Frequently Asked Questions
How much do you charge?
Due to the many factors we must take into account, such as travel time/distance, load-in/setup/performance times, dates, audience size, venue size and accessibility, and sound and lighting requirements, each potential booking is considered on its own merits and as such we do not have a “standard” price. Please request a personalised quote via our Contact page which we can normally provide within three working days.
Are you a “faceless” band or “collective”?
Absolutely not! For those unaware, a "faceless" band or "collective" refers to a group that doesn’t have a fixed lineup of permanent members, but is instead assembled from a rotating pool of musicians on a per-performance basis. In some cases, the members may only be meeting each other for the first time when they arrive at the event! By contrast, we are a professional band with a fixed lineup of permanent members – what you see is what you get. But ultimately we’re more than just a band; we’re true friends, a musical family – and that deep connection shines through in every performance.
What type of events do you perform at?
We perform at festivals, carnivals, corporate events, charity events, weddings, and private functions and parties.
What areas do you cover?
Mainly Devon, but we also cover Cornwall, Somerset, and Bristol – subject to exact details of the booking.
Can we see you perform live prior to booking you?
You are very welcome to attend any of our public performances, details of which can be found on our Facebook page. Alternatively, you can attend one of our rehearsals at our dedicated rehearsal studio located near Teignmouth, Devon. This option provides the opportunity to discuss your booking requirements personally and has proven popular with many previous clients. Contact us to arrange an appointment.
Do you take requests?
We always attempt to tailor our set list to the booking in question and if a song already in our repertoire is requested on the night or in advance, we will gladly perform it. However, due to our busy performance schedule we are unable to learn specific requests.
Do you supply your own sound and lighting equipment?
Yes, we have our own high-quality sound (PA) systems and lighting suitable for a variety of venue and audience sizes. We are supported by veteran sound engineer, Colin James, whose impressive client list and CV includes Queen, Dire Straits, and LiveAid. We can provide a full tech spec if required. Equally, we are happy to work with sound and lighting already installed at venues (subject to specification/suitability) and especially at festivals/carnivals where typically we would only need to bring our “backline”. We also have our own stage risers for the drums and keyboards and can provide staging via one of our trusted partners, although a stage isn't necessary.
How long does it take to you to load-in, setup, and soundcheck?
This depends on various factors, such as venue size and accessibility, audience size, and whether we are using our own sound and lighting equipment and stage risers, amongst other things. As a guide, for a typical booking at a private venue with good access, an audience size of up to 200, and using our own sound and lighting equipment and stage risers, approximately 2 hours. For further clarification please request a personalised quote via our Contact page.
How much space do you require and do you need a stage?
Ideally we need a dedicated, level performance area of 5m wide x 4m deep. We can work with a smaller area as long as we know in advance. We have our own stage risers for the drums and keyboards and can provide staging via one of our trusted partners, although a stage isn't necessary.
What are your electrical power requirements?
As a minimum we require four, 13 amp (standard) plug sockets and we draw approximately 5kW of power.
The venue has a sound/noise limiter, is this a problem?
Regrettably, we are unable to perform at venues with a sound/noise limiter (fixed installation or otherwise).
What happens if one of the band is sick?
In all the years the five of us have been performing, either as The Embers, in other bands, or individually, not one of us has ever cancelled a gig due to illness. However, we have various “deps” (deputy musicians) we can call upon in the very unlikely event that one of us is unable to perform due to illness.
Are you insured?
